Tom Hanks was named the new vice-president of the American Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences

The five time nominee and two-time Oscar winner (for “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump” respectively) will serve the organisation that controls the Oscars.

Hanks starring in a film version of The Da Vinci Code, has formerly acted as the governor of the actor’s branch of the Academy.

The Academy elected Sid Ganis as new president, replacing Frank Pierson, who served a maximum four one-year terms.

Academy spokesman John Pavlik said that, one of Ganis’ first tasks would be to hire a producer for the 78th annual Oscar awards show, due to go on air on March 5.

Hollywood star Brad Pitt is keen to sign Tom Cruise’s former public relations guru Pat Kingsley to help Pitt plan a press onslaught about his romance with actress Angelina Jolie

According to sources, the ‘Troy’ star, who is finally ready to make public his personal life, wants Kingsley, to help mastermind his upcoming TV appearances and magazine interviews.

“Brad’s set to go public about his loving relationship with Angelina, but wants the event handled carefully and executed strategically. He knows Pat’s perfect for the job,� an insider said.

Pat Kingsley was mysteriously sacked by Cruise last year.
