A teenage rape victim from Ethiopia has alleged that she is the biologial mother of actress Angelina Jolie’s adopted baby Zahara Marley. She said Zahara was the result of a brutal rape.

The Hollywood beauty, adopted baby Ethiopian girl last month during a trip to the African country, believing she was an orphan.

Now the tot’s mother Mentewab Dawitt has been tracked down and has revealed the baby was conceived after she was raped in her bed as she slept at night.

Dawit was made pregnant by a rapist last year, and despite friends and family urging her to have an abortion, she bravely went on to give birth to the child January 7 this year.

Mentewab, who was caring for her sick grandfather at the time, said “One night I went to bed early feeling very tired and a stranger broke in through the window. I kept my eyes shut for most of the time to try and blank it out. It was the first time I had sex so it was very painful indeed.”

Mentewab was initially shunned by her mother and family for having a baby, who she named Setota, outside of marriage. After her family eventually accepted the situation, she was forced to put the child up for adoption because she could not financially support her.

“I was all alone after giving birth, but I was so happy to have my child, but I was thinking about its future. I could only eat a piece of bread each day, so it was very difficult to me to breastfeed my child. I assumed my baby was going to die,� she was quoted as saying.

18-year-old Dawit, who had no idea about her child’s whereabouts until the paper tracked her down in a small town of Ethopia, said that she was delighted to know that the baby was offered a better upbringing.

“It’s true. I am her mother. She’s got my nose, my eyes, even my cheeks,� Dawit exclaimed after seeing a photo of Zahara.

Despite her heartache, Mentewab has thanked Angelina - who also has an adopted Cambodian son, Maddox - for giving her daughter the chance of a better life away from the poverty of her native country.

She added: “I am so grateful to this lady for giving my daughter a better life. I want them both to know I love them very much. I want to say thank you to Angelina for giving my baby, this wonderful loving family.”
