Day of the Dead remake in work, Land of the Dead set for June 24th

“Day of the Deadâ€? remake in work, “Land of the Dead” set for June 24th

Millennium Films, Taurus Entertainment and Emmett/Furla Films are developing a remake of George A. Romero’s 1985 Day of the Dead, which will be financed and distributed through Millennium. Romero’s “Land of the Dead” is set for a June 24th release.

The original film was set in a world overrun by zombies bent on extracting a group of scientists and military personnel who have holed up in an underground bunker. It was a sequel to 1968’s Night of the Living Dead and 1978’s Dawn of the Dead.

The Millennium Films’ project follows last year’s remake of Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, which was both a critical and commercial success and grossed $102 million (£55.9m) worldwide.

Release dates for the “Day of the Dead” remake have not been announced.

“Land” is not a remake; it’s a sequel to the original “Dead” films.

Romero has developed this new feature, where the walking dead roam an uninhabited wasteland and the living try to lead “normal” lives behind the walls of a fortified city. A new society has been built by a handful of enterprising, ruthless opportunists, who live in the towers of a skyscraper, high above the hard-scrabble existence on the streets below.

However outside the city walls, an army of the dead is evolving. Inside, anarchy is on the rise. With the very survival of the city at stake, a group of hardened mercenaries is called into action to protect the living from an army of the dead.

Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper, Asia Argento and Robert Joy star in this feature for Universal Pictures.
