Bewitched remake of the ’60s hit series
Bewitched is the romantic comedy
She looked bewitching in Yves Saint Laurent. But Nicole Kidman, who plays witch Isabel Bigelow in the romantic comedy Bewitched, did little press at the film’s world premiere in the US on Monday night.
The usually talkative actress was upset by the death of her close friend and makeup artist Robert McCann but nevertheless came to support the film, publicists said.
Kidman did tell reporters that she had had the most fun on this movie since shooting her Oscarnominated turn as sexy Satine in 2001’s Moulin Rouge.
And if she had one magical power, she said, it would be to “timetravel.”
Bewitched, which opens June 24, is a movieabout the remake of the ’60s hit series starring Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha and Dick York (and later, Dick Sergeant) as her clueless hubby, Darrin Stephens. Will Ferrell plays Jack Wyatt, an egocentric actor who gets cast as Darrin in a TV remake of Bewitched, while Kidman is the witchy actress playing Samantha.
Noses are twitched, and whacky antics ensue.
Ferrell promised he’s nothing like his egomaniacal, deeply insecure bigscreen alter ego.
Well, except for a few things: “I do have a staff of 42 people in my house. I have all the crusts cut off my sandwiches. I eat only blue M&Ms, and I wear satin underwear.”
Ferrell’s magical power of choice would be, “to make the world’s greatest burrito.”
The most spellbinding thing about his 15monthold son, Magnus? “Probably his smile,” said Ferrell, who was at the premiere with his wife, Viveca Paulin. “He drove a semi. I sent him to trucking school. He loves riding the big wheels.”
That’s vintage deadpan Ferrell. The former Saturday Night Live star was so funny in his scenes, director Nora Ephron said, that “it was, quite honestly, a problem cutting some of them. Several of the actors just lost it. When he’s working, he makes things so much funnier.”
By all accounts, the shoot was a blast.
“The best part was the cast and being around those people all day, every day,” said Heather Burns, who plays Isabel’s pal Nina. “Nicole is lovely. I don’t know what it is. She has a quiet kind of charm. Will is hilarious. I’ve never seen anyone that fast with a oneliner.”
