Ninja Turtles will be back in animated style

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movie is actually happening after a 14-year break in the new computer-generated style. The new movie will feature state-of-the-art computer-generated animation (CGI) and is set for early 2007 release by Warner Bros. studios.
“We think that a new generation of kids will love discovering Turtles, especially supported by the enthusiasm of fans of the original movies, comicbooks and TV shows,” Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov said.
“Reintroducing the Ninja Turtles in an animated movie will enable the filmmakers to fully realize the adventure and humor of the property.” said Weinstein chief Harvey Weinstein.
Weinstein Company has signed a deal to distribute the all-CGI film. The turtles have already had three live action movies, the last one happened in 1993.
The comic-book inspired stories of four humanoid fighting turtles caused a worldwide sensation when they were adapted for television in the late 1980s before hitting the big screen in 1990.
The new “Turtles” movie, which will be far grittier than the original films, will be aimed at adult and parentally-accompanied youngsters and will feature state-of-the-art computer-generated graphics.
This PG-rated movie will derive its tone from the original Mirage comic book series in an effort to appeal to all.
The film will be written and directed by animation guru Kevin Munroe, who is developing the screenplay in consultation with “Turtles” comic book co-creator Peter Laird and the CGI animation will be created in Imagi in Hong Kong.
4Kids Entertainment is handling exclusive worldwide merchandising rights and Playmates Toys is developing a toy line for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
“The all-new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is an exciting opportunity for the brand,” says Alfred R. Kahn, chairman and CEO of 4Kids Entertainment.
“To have Playmates Toys on board will guarantee a unique and innovative line of toys for all Turtles fans. Since its re-launch, the Turtles have enjoyed tremendous success as a television series and at retail, which we expect will continue as the Turtles head for the big screen. 4Kids Entertainment will continue to extend and build the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles licensing program globally based on the upcoming movie with both existing and new licensees.”
In 2003, the Turtles returned to television after a five-year pause and now appear on 4Kids TV.
