‘The Descent’ director busy with many projects
‘Dog Soldiers’ director Neil Marshall is busy with many projects after the critical and commercial success of ‘The Descent’. At the moment he has two new projects on the cards.
First is ‘Outpost‘, a sci-fi horror that tells the tale of a genetic experiment going horribly wrong. Currently onto his third draft of the script, Marshall hopes to start shooting the film before the end of the year. Marshall said that a deal has been done with Pathe to make the film, but it’s currently on the back burner.
‘I don’t want to get tired of doing horror films and doing three in a row would just be a bit too much,’ he explained. ‘I’ve done two aspects of horror, I now want to go away and do something different and come back to the genre with renewed vigour at a later date.’
After that the writer-director plans to make ‘Eagle’s Nest‘, a World War II action-adventure that is being inclined as a cross between ‘Die Hard’ and ‘The Remains of the Day’. Marshall revealed that ‘Dog Soldiers’ stars Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd may appear in both films. ‘I’ve always had this idea of putting together a company in the same way John Ford did, using character actors again and again.’
The story is about a hypothetical rescue attempt on Rudolph Hess after he parachuted into Scotland in World War II. The ‘Die Hard’ scenario comes in when the rescue attempt goes wrong and the German unit takes Hess to a country castle in the borders of Scotland.
‘The gamekeeper has to stop them escaping and picks them off one by one.’
The director also exclusively revealed that he is planning to make a medieval heist movie called ‘The Sword and the Fury‘. ‘It’s about what happens 30 years after King Arthur dies and Excalibur falls into the wrong hands. Guinevere then hires a band of thieves to steal it back.
In related news, Marshall’s latest feature, ‘The Descent‘ is due to hit UK screens on July 8 while a sequel to ‘Dog Soldiers’, entitled ‘Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat‘, will go into production in Hungary in September under the guidance of ‘The Bunker’ director Rob Green.
Neil Marshall’s Dog Soldiers movie which he wrote, directed and edited was superb fun and despite not being officially released in the US, it’s been a huge hit.
