The trailer for the upcoming film can now be viewed online. The film will be released on September 16th.
Proof, which will feature a screenplay by Auburn and Rebecca Miller, views mathematics as a metaphor for love in a story that has Catherine (Paltrow) dropping out of college to tend to her ailing, mentally unstable math genius of a father (Hopkins).
The casting of Proof is impressive with stars like Anthony Hopkins, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jake Gyllenhaal. The three give strong impressions in the trailer. Director John Madden (Shakespeare In Love) also directed Paltrow in the London engagement of the play at the Donmar Warehouse.

Plot
Proof, movie version of David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play by the same name follows the story of a mentally unstable genius who dies, leaving behind one of the most tremendous mathematic discoveries of our time. He also leaves behind an equally intelligent daughter who struggles with following in her father’s footsteps, not just in science but in life and is forced to face her own long-harbored fears and emotions.
She adjusts to his death with the help of one of her father’s former mathematical students (Gyllenhaal) who searches through her father’s notebooks in the hope of discovering a bit of his old brilliance. While coming to terms with the possibility that his genius, which she has inherited, may come at a painful price, her estranged sister (Davis) arrives to help settle their father’s affairs.
“Proof” is a haunting tale of the fragility of life and love that explores life’s complex equations.
Proof won the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
The play, which was directed by Daniel Sullivan (who also won a Tony), opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on October 24th, 2000 and ran for 917 performances before closing on Jan. 5, 2003.
The original cast included Mary-Louise Parker, who won a Tony Award for her performance as a Best Actress; Larry Bryggman; Johanna Day; and Ben Shenkman. All of the actors in its 4-person cast received nominations.
