Brooke Shields has revealed her pregnancy was a huge surprise because she was about to begin fertility treatment.

The actress, who is expecting the baby next spring, said “This was a surprise of a child. My husband was the most surprised.”

Shields and her husband Chris Henchy were preparing to undergo the difficult process of IVF treatment - which they used to conceive their two-year-old daughter Rowan - but were shocked when the star fell pregnant naturally.

“I had gone through so much fertility treatment to receive my first child. I went through IVF seven times and the journey was so difficult that I was just preparing to start it again. “It was nice that my husband didn’t have to show up at the clinic a half an hour earlier with a magazine and whatever else to conceive the child!”

Meanwhile, Shields who battled the postnatal depression in her first pregnancy insists she’s ready to take on the depression should it strike twice. The 40-year-old said, “If you’re aware of what your struggles are, then you can take the necessary action to safeguard yourself to be ready for it. So I’m not afraid.”
