Leonardo DiCaprio has been lined up to star as Roosevelt, US president from 1901-09.

Hollywood heartthrob is to teaming up again with director Martin Scorsese in a new film about former US president Theodore Roosevelt. The film will be based on Edmund Morris’ Pulitzer-winning biography ‘The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt‘.

The film would follow Roosevelt’s progress from asthmatic lightweight to commander of the First US Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, known as The Rough Riders, and on to the White House.

Though, the shooting of the film hasn’t yet started, it is expected that the film could be in theaters by 2007.

Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked on Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departure (which is due for the release next year).
