Success will bring Sequel to Fantastic Four
The comic-book adaptation “Fantastic Four” success at the box office is showing sequel possibilities.
Released by 20th Century Fox this Marvel Comics’ superhero team blazed into the top spot with an estimated $56 million at 3,602 theaters, the fifth highest-grossing start ever for a comic book movie, after the two “Spider-Man” films and “X-Men 2″.
“Fantastic Four’s” success has turned Story into an A-list director. The movie is fun, funny and touching. It’s for the whole family.
In the press conference Story said, “I would definitely want to come back for the second. If you’re familiar with this comic book, we’ve just scratched the surface. This is an origin movie and there’s so many characters and so much that we have to get to, things like the Fantasticar.”
“We made it for the audience. We didn’t make it for the critics,” Story said Sunday. “And to have it turn out like this is great. I said all along I just wanted it to make enough to do a sequel. There has definitely been more talk this weekend about that.”
“Fantastic Four,” which revolves around a quartet imbued with special powers such as invisibility and elasticity after a space mission gone wrong, appeared to fill moviegoers’ desire for something “light and frothy,” said Fox distribution president Bruce Snyder.
All the cast are signed for a sequel. It’s been mooted that the wicked ‘Puppet Master’ will be introduced in the next round.
