Ellen Page cast as Kitty Pryde in X-Men 3, Maggie lost

Fifteen-year-old actress Ellen Page will play the role of Kitty Pryde in X-Men 3, directed by Brett Ratner that is set for May 26, 2006 release. Maggie Grace (TV’s Lost) was previously said to have been attached to the role.

Page can next be seen in Lions Gate Films thriller Hard Candy, and she also starred in the TV series Trailer Park Boys.

Kitty Pryde is the mutant called Shadowcat, who possesses the ability to pass through solid matter by passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. When she’s insubstantial, she can walk on air, and disrupt electrical machinery by phasing through it.

The filmmakers have one role left to cast; that of Warren “Angel” Worthington’s (Ben Foster) father.

Mark Helfrich has been signed as the third and final editor for the film. Helfrich has always worked as an editor with Brett Ratner and joins Mark Goldblatt (”Terminator” 1 & 2) and Julia Wong (”Erin Brockovich,” “Unfaithful”), to give “X3″ a strong editor line up.

“It’s just so huge,” she says. “It just blows my mind. I’m so used to doing tough, intense material in like 18 days or 24 days, for not much money. It’s truly the complete opposite of anything I’ve ever done.”

“She can run through walls, and grab people and pull them through walls,â€? says Page. “Not very flashy—it’s kind of the humble defensive power.”

Photography was recently done in San Francisco and Alcatraz Island for the film’s trailer, which is expected to debut in December. Production on the film itself starts next week in Vancouver.

In related news, X-Men 3 might be filmed in Washington, DC possibly near a major monument! It are unsure what type of shoot this may be, first or second unit, but producers have already been in touch with the District of Columbia Film Office.
