Plot: Three top-gun pilots are picked to test-fly experimental fighter jets. Once the tests are over they are joined by EDI. It is the name of the supersonic, futuristic plane, which is what Stealth is all about. “Stealth, is a story about a runaway hi-tech stealth jet whose artificial intelligence program goes haywire after being hit by a bolt of lightning. Although grounded for repairs, the plane is rushed back into service despite signs of a newly developed free will. Lt. Ben Gannon (Josh Lucas), Henry (Jamie Foxx) and Kara (Jessica Biel) the three naval pilots pull together to save the day.
Story:
US Navy pilots Ben, Henry and Kara are part of this secret elite division of test pilots that flies stealth fighter jets. In the movie their commanding officer Capt. George Cummings (Sam Shepard) gives them their first non-test range assignment and introduces the team to their new wingman that isn’t a man (or woman) at all but an artificial intelligence based plane, UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) and the much friendlier “EDI” as in “Eddieâ€?.
Their first mission alongside EDI, proves successful as they completely eliminate their target but on the return trip, the aircraft carrier is struck by lightning and its brain expands in ways its creators could never have imagined. Despite Ben warnings, Cummings declares EDI is ready to rejoin the team in its next mission.
Their next mission gets jeopardized against a nuclear-armed warlord in the remote Chinese province. Ben decides to abort the mission as the risks outweigh the benefits to his team. But EDI with a brain of its own goes against the orders and executes the attack.
Now it is upon Ben to control the aircraft and save the mission.
Stealth is a complete action and special effect flick. What else to expect from the director Rob Cohen, who has given us such cinematic gems as Daylight and The Fast and the Furious. The film completely disregards geographic, physical, and political realities and reduces it to the level of a video game. The lazy script makes it an awfully dull even for all of the “action” it has. While there are enough explosions and flight battles to make the first half of the movie entertaining, the two-hour running time is definitely more than one can handle without practical narrative.
I would say if you like action movies and the planes then its twists and turns will not stop you from getting all the fun you need.
